Enjoyed “Saturday Interview” with Justin Trotter. I agree wholeheartedly with his point about public support for Catholic schools. I recognize there is a commitment emanating from the old BNA Act about Catholic schools in Quebec; but it does not bind Ontario to pay for Catholic secondary schools; nor did we until fairly recently. It was a political sop to Catholic voters.
Without going into details about the pros and cons of religious beliefs, I do believe if people want to believe in fairytales, they should be allowed to do so in privacy, but not in public places and/or organizations. We do live in a multi-cultural and necessarily a multi-religious society –that fact cannot be denied. What can be denied are the pervasiveness of religion in the public space and the dissemination of religious propaganda in our organizations, schools in particular.
It seems we are living in a world of religious polarization and fanaticism, Christians and Muslims are having at it again, continuing the crusades in words, and sometimes deeds. When I survey the horrors done in the name of God, I am mindful of a comment attributed to G.K.Chesterton: Thank God for atheists!
